Filoli Estate

Filoli Estate - Architectural Rehabilitation, Exterior Restoration - ARG

This massive estate nestled among its extensive gardens in Woodside was designed by Willis Polk in 1916 in an interpretation of Georgian style. In order to ensure the safety of the now-museum’s 50,000 annual visitors, ARG served as the architect for its phased seismic strengthening. Following this work, we designed a new Visitor and Education Center to be consistent with the axial, Beaux Art estate plan. The subdued pavilion design features rich detailing that relates closely to the existing structures.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Filoli stands for “Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life”, the credo of William Bourn, who built the estate.
