Cooper-Molera Adobe Historic Site

Cooper Molera Exterior

The Cooper-Molera Adobe historic site is one of only two NTHP properties on the West Coast. It represents the rich history and origins of the state of California and contributes to the Monterey Old Town National Historic Landmark District. Originally dating from 1827, the roughly 2.5-acre site is surrounded by a historic adobe wall and includes two adjacent adobe homes, a corner store, an adobe warehouse, a barn complex, and beautiful gardens and grounds.

In 2011, the National Trust joined forces with private developer Foothill Partners Inc. to re-envision the Cooper-Molera site through a shared use agreement. ARG was hired to rehabilitate the buildings to balance compelling historic interpretation and education programs with appropriate and complementary commercial uses through careful rehabilitation and sensitive infill construction. This involved seismic strengthening of the barn complex for event use and small infill construction to support commercial functions in the historic buildings that originally housed commercial uses.
