David is an architectural conservator who oversees the repair and restoration of historic resources. His background in furniture making and conservation fostered a passion for the craft of building, as well as a deep understanding of materials. David directs the firm’s conservation projects, diagnosing material conditions, managing the firm’s in-house building materials testing laboratory, and developing new conservation treatments for a wide range of materials, including concrete, wood, decoratively painted plaster work, natural building stones, brickwork, and terra cotta. David has been actively involved with many professional organizations and foundations, including a post as co-chair of the American Society for Testing of Materials (ASTM) task group that developed guidelines for masonry consolidants, and was an invited participant in the development of guidelines for the use of biocides on historic outdoor structures and monuments by the National Park Service. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Preservation Technology (APT) and is the past chair of the Architectural Specialty Group of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC). Locally, David has served as Board President for San Francisco Architectural Heritage and as a board member of the AIA San Francisco chapter. Currently, David is representing the Building, Owners, and Managers Association (BOMA) as a member of the San Francisco Façade working group that is developing an ordinance for the inspection and care of older and historic commercial buildings.
