A city planner by training, Matthew sees historic buildings as vital components of the urban fabric’s rich tapestry. Whether supporting the careful preservation of a high-design landmark or stewarding the adaptive reuse of a more vernacular historic building, Matthew focuses his preservation planning efforts on fostering built environments that are interesting, beloved, and meaningful. Matthew’s specialties include conducting historic resource evaluations; completing resource surveys and National Register nominations; assessing project design for conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards; communicating with local and state historic review commissions; and developing preservation plans and design guidelines. Matthew is a member of APA Oregon’s Board of Directors, Restore Oregon’s Board of Directors, and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
