Congratulations to ARG principal Kitty Vieth, AIA, LEED AP on her recent election as President of the Association for Preservation Technology International!
APT is an interdisciplinary membership organization dedicated to promoting the best technology for preserving historic structures and their settings. Kitty has been involved with APT’s board of directors since 2007 and most recently served as a vice president and the co-chair of the publications committee. Before this, she served on the board of the Western Chapter of APT.
“I ran for this office because I believe that APT provides the best opportunity to develop and share cross-disciplinary preservation solutions with its members and the larger community of practice,” says Kitty. “I am honored to take the helm of APT for the next two years and work with APT’s technical committees to build upon the great work accomplished to date. I am particularly excited about current opportunities to collaborate with complementary national and international organizations on initiatives related to the nexus of preservation and sustainability.”
Kitty has more than 20 years of experience in historic preservation and combines training as an architect, historian, and conservator. Based in ARG’s San Francisco office, she manages ARG’s work with the National Park Service, including numerous projects at Yosemite National Park. Recent and current work at Yosemite includes rehabilitation and planning projects at The Ahwahnee, Wawona, Curry Village, The Ansel Adams Gallery, and many more. She has also worked on numerous projects throughout California, including Bay Area lighthouses, California Missions, and Bertram Goodhue’s California Tower in Balboa Park.
Kitty is also a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and is a LEED Accredited Professional. She holds a master of architecture and a master of science in historic preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and received a bachelor of arts with honors in architectural studies from Brown University.
