ARG Portland Competes in CANstruction 2017

ARG Portland teamed with HDR Engineers to design and build a sculpture out of canned food to benefit the Oregon Food Bank in the 2017 CANstruction competition. Our sculpture, a reimagining of René Magritte’s The Son of Man painting, used more than 1500 cans! Our project statement was printed on the sign next to the sculpture: “We have chosen René Magritte’s faceless self-portrait, The Son of Man, to represent those suffering from hunger whose struggle is often hidden. Our aim is to bring awareness to their invisible war, and conquer it for good.”

The sculptures are on display at Pioneer Place Mall in downtown Portland from September 11 to 17, and also posted to the CANstruction Portland Facebook page and documented by the DJC.

We can’t wait to start planning next year’s entry!
