Historic Resource Assessment for Development Reuse of Fort Ord East Garrison
Urban Community Partners/East Garrison Partners
Monterey, California

Formally deactivated in September 1994, Fort Ord's East Garrison consists of over 75 structures, the majority of which are either wood frame or concrete, built in the 1940s. These structures are in the process of being reused for educational, housing, and mixed-use development. ARG completed a Historic Resource Assessment, based on NEPA and CEQA, to identify the impacts of proposed projects on potential historic and cultural resources. The structures were also evaluated for NRHP and CRHR eligibility as a historic district. ARG is also working with the developer to prepare a Memorandum of Agreement between the Fort Ord Reuse Authority and the State Office of Historic Preservation. ARG will prepare recommendations and design guidelines for rehabilitation of the historic concrete buildings.
