Brand Library & Art Center
City of Glendale
Glendale, California
The Brand Library and Art Center are housed in
a mansion commissioned by Leslie C. Brand and built by his brother-in-law,
Nathaniel Dryden, in 1904. After Brand's death in 1925, the
mansion was bequeathed to the City of Glendale with the stipulation
that it be used exclusively as a public park and library. The mansion
was converted into Brand Library, and an addition was completed
in 1969 that includes facilities for art exhibitions, lectures,
concerts, and art and craft studios.
ARG developed a Master Plan for the Library and
Art Center, which involved analyzing both the library and the gallery
space expansion
needs, including the incorporation of technological upgrades. We
addressed issues relating to historic significance and preservation
of the mansion, accessibility, life-safety improvements, maintenance,
and program-ming.
