Historic Downtown Los Angeles Design Guidelines
Consortium of Los Angeles Conservancy & Three Downtown
Improvement Districts
Los Angeles, California
ARG compiled a series
of design guidelines that help property owners and tenants preserve
historic authenticity while encouraging
commercial activity. We examined over 200 historic office buildings
and theaters in the downtown Los Angeles area as the first step
in the development of the final set of guidelines.
The design guidelines addressed suggestions for renovation and
reuse of existing historic resources. A key component of the project
was the collaboration of the Business Improvement Districts,
the City of Los Angeles, and the Conservancy, as well as community
members,
to
address local
issues in the adaptive reuse of older structures. This project
won a 2003 CPF Historic Preservation Design Award, and
a
2003 Los Angeles
Business Council Architectural Award.
