Lighthouse, Pt. Reyes National Seashore
National Park Service
Pt. Reyes, California
Completed in 1870, the lighthouse is one of the
finest examples of iron plate lighthouses in the country. The lighthouse
is a 16-sided pyramidal tower with three levels: a ground
level watch room, a first gallery level for mechanisms, and a second
gallery, which houses the lantern and the original 3-ton, first
order lens designed by August Jean Fresnel.
ARG served as prime architect on the rehabilitation of the historic
lighthouse complex. ARG also lead a team of conservators and engineers
to evaluate the seismic and materials conditions of the lighthouse,
resulting in a comprehensive conditions assessment report, used
as a basis for the preparation of design documents for a complete
restoration of the lighthouse structure, materials, and its historic
Fresnel lens.
