St. Peter Church
Archdiocese of San Francisco
San Francisco, California
A Victorian-era, wood-frame church built circa
1880, St. Peter Church was partially destroyed
in a 1997 fire. ARG provided architectural services for the interior
liturgical improvements and upgrade to the Mission District church.
We relocated the altar and tabernacle, reconfigured the seating,
and developed a new baptismal font to bring the new church layout
into compliance to Vatican II. ARG created a new “day chapel” for
smaller services within the existing church space. In addition,
we addressed interior ADA issues and created specifications for
replication of the decorative paintings and documentation of the
stained glass windows. This project received a 2001 Faith and Form
Award, as well as a 2002 CPF Preservation Design Award.
