Building 23
Carnegie Mellon University-West
Moffett Field, California
Carnegie Mellon University’s West Coast
campus is located in the Shenandoah Historic District of the NASA
Ames
Research Center. The historic core of the former
U.S. Naval Air Station is comprised of five structures surrounding
Shenandoah Plaza. Constructed in 1933,
Building 23 is a contributing structure within the National Register
Historic District, originally serving as the base infirmary. Decommissioned
in 1994,
NASA Ames assumed control of the former air station for use as
a research center.
ARG prepared a schematic design for the adaptive
reuse of Building 23 into a new research facility with some classroom
use. The project
is the first phase in the creation of a West Coast campus for the
University.
